expert? EXPERT? EEEEXPERRRRT?! who said anything about expert? me? no! what do you mean expert?!
helloooooooooo! i'm just an eighteen year old girl! i literally turned eighteen like A MONTH AGO!
i never said i was an expert, i did say i love to talk.... ok i don't love to talk, i love to babble so much that people's ears start
to fall off and creep under the carpet.
wait. stop. why am i getting so defensive about this? what if that person was just using this as a persuasive technique in their writing?
what if i'm being an idiot raving about experts and not seeing what might really be going on.
gee maybe i'm the fruitcakehead for not thinking twice. maybe that guy just had a really really bad day? maybe someone told him he had cancer? maybe someone told him his tie looks crap? or maybe someone just didn't notice that he got his haircut? cos this isn't just about me, or that guy talking about experts, its about all the people in the world who don't get noticed, who don't get helped, who don't get seen. who get yelled at, and abused, and who knows what else. what about them?
it could be the cleaner, it could be your next door neighbour, it could be your psychology teacher, it could be your best friend, or your wife, it could be that kid in class who no one ever talks to, cos 'he's weeeeeeeeird'. well wake up, just cos he/she has a life, just because it is a little different to yours, doesn't make it any less, or more.
also i have a spiel to make about islam.
someone said to me, what islam? you mean that religion where they force all there women to wear scarves and say nothing and do nothing and learn nothing? i just sat there kinda going. . . wa-wa-wa-waaa---huh? wait. stop. she believes this is what islam is all about. she honestly believes that all muslims believe this to the letter.
and i thought, well what about the muslim principles to ALWAys give of your own riches to others because you always have more than someone else?
what about the entire basis of islam, surrending to god and appreciating all that he gives? that is my interpretation of the meaning of the word islam. to surrender to whatever it is you call god, jesus, saint mary, buddha, moses, allah, and appreciate all the things he gives you all the time. to see that you have eyes where some are blind. you have hands, and feet, and legs, and arms, where some are paralysed for life. to see that you have a house, a heater, a kitchen, running water, where some have dirt, sticks, rags, a river a mile away and legs and a bucket.
to me, that is what islam is about, thanking all the people and all the actions and all the amazing things that allowed you to come to the place where you stand today.
also, i realize that some people think of me still as some amazing little child prodigy with magic running through her veins.
well ykno, i'm your next door neighbour, i'm your english teacher, i'm your sister, your best friend, your aunty, your pen pal, that girl behind the register at the supermarket. i am made of flesh and blood. i speak english. actually my favourite subject is english, and media, and language, and wait stop i just love school, HAAAAA I AM A PROUD NERD BECAUSE I LOOOOOVE SCHOOL! i have always loved to learn. i've figured out that if i had to be obsessive compulsive about something, it would be about learning :) ummmmmmm. .. . i like playing soccer, my hair is red so i'm one of those true ranga's complete with a temper and everything! :) umm.... yea i love food, actually i love food so much that i have dreams about food at night. once i dreamt about margherita pizza. you don't understand!!! it was like THE BEST margherita EVER! fresh cooked bread, home made tomato sauce, herbs from the garden. it was like amaaaazing :D
oh and back to that whole thing about people are similar, or alike, well what i mean is that everyone has things in common, if you look hard enough you can find somehting in common with anyone.
in buddhism there's a saying, it goes like this: namaste. it means:
I honour the place in you that is the same in me.
I honour the place in you where the whole universe resides.
I honour the place in you of love, of light, of peace, and of truth.
I honour the place in you that is the same in me.
There is but one.
Namaste.
now whomever it is you call your 'one', buddha, jesus, allah, moses, mary, aristotle, to me they are all MADE OF the same thing, they are all 'symbols' or codes used for the SAME thing. so whomever you call god, however you see religion, they are all a type of god or religion or belief or philosophy. they are i believe in fact all THE SAME THING seen in different ways by different people. in the same way, we are all one person seen in different ways by different people. we all have, imagine like an undercurrent of water running along underneath the earth. its beautifully pure, and clean, and fresh, and it tastes really sweet like rainwater, imagine that this undercurrent of rainwater runs through everyone, so everyone is connected to everyone via this current. i think this current is more like radio waves, or microwave waves, or bluetooth 'waves', except like the ultimate form of wave. made of emotions, intentions, needs, and so on.
anyhow: i thought its best i write up all the amazing things i read at Heartland when i was up there. if you feel you need a good holiday, i really really recommend Heartland! its amaaaaazing, the people are amazing, the food is amazing, and most importantly what you learn is amazing. they have website, just google it :)
anyhow heres the advice i wrote down:
kind words can be short,
and easy to speak,
but their echoes are truly endless
-Mother Theresa
Life is not a race,
but a journey to be savoured
each step of hte way,
Yesterday is history,
tomorrow is a mystery,
and today is a gift.
Buddha.
Advice is like snow:
the softer it falls,
the longer it dwells upon,
and the deeper it sinks into the mind.
Mahatma Ghandi
Imagination is more important than knowledge
knowledge is limited,
imagination encircles the world.
Albert Einstein.
also Les at Heartland told me that the easiest way to teach others
is to set a good example, and i realized that he really is right, cos
i know that majority of people learn by doing and seeing. such as
learning how to cook, dance, walk, write, draw, and so on.
so if someone sees how to do something, and they see someone
they trust a lot in their life doing it, and they see that by doing this
things became easier, they may start doing it.
so.... ''i saw mum cleaning up this morning. hey that was smart of her,
now she doesn't have to clean up this afternoon. instead she has a bit
more time to do something she wants, like knitting, or playing piano,
or singing. i think i might go clean up my room so i've got a little more time to
sing."
also the only thing that changes, is the fact that Everything changes.
and change takes time. a LOOOOOOT of time. patience and persistence bring results.
people are stubborn, they are confused, they live on their own planet, where
everyone yells at them, and hates them, and it can get very very confusing when you
live on your own planet. so reach across to someone else's planet. go travelling to other peoples' planets.
i promise, although sometimes you may fall over and get hurt, sometimes you'll learn
to fly and have so much fun you'll never want to stop! :)
also forgiveness, sometimes when someone forgives you, you get so surprised that you nearly fall over on your bum from shock.
you never thought they would ever forgive you, and you had been so sad and missing them for such a long time, that you never thought it would ever happen. suddenly when it does, you are speechless, you dunno what to say, well say thanks, and however you say thanks is up to you. but appreciation is one of those small details that often gets forgotten. like noticing someone got their haircut, or that someone had a bad day, or asking about someone's day when they may have got a promotion, or been fired.
simply my lifeline really is questions and the sunshine and my community ties.
how are you? did you have a good day? what happened? good stuff? bad stuff?
how have you been? do you have any news? if not, do you want to start doing something? something
you love, and loved to do as a child? . .. like climbing trees! :D or try something new? like yoga?
are you upset? are you ok? why are you so angry? or sad? did someone say something? or do something?
did someone NOT say or do something? could you please wait, or hang on a second, i've got to finish this,
i love you and i care a lot about you, but right now i've got to finish this. is that ok?
do you trust me? do you hate me? do you think i am a liar? or a cheat? or a thief?
sometimes the sun shines on my face and i cry because i know i should be feeling happy, but sometimes you
just can't be happy. sometimes you've gotta cry. other times the sun shines on me and i feel so alive and so free
and so much like me and it is like cleaning your self out.
and other times i just need a hug. a smile. some kind words. from someone i love or trust.
or simply an entertaining conversation with someone at the supermarket.
everyone needs different things. everyone loves different things. everyone sees different things.
everyone feels different things and dreams and hopes about different things.
but everyone is still everyone.
i remember last year i read an amazing novel by D.H.Lawrence titled "The Fox, The Captain and The Ladybird" i had the priviledge to
be taught by a really amazing teacher with a lot of life experience. and she alerted our class to a passage from that novel.
i don't have the novel with me today, but i remember my own interpretation of this passage.
that althought we all love, every person's love is different. sort of like every person's love is a different colour, a different shape, a different style. and love is sort of like enthusiasm i think. actually i think love and enthusiasm are close cousins. so when you shut down or reject love or enthusiasm, you shut down or reject someones style, their colour, their shape, you shut down everything They are (the person you reject), because they have given you a tiny little piece of themselves and it took bravery to give that little piece. so applaud it, love it, enthuse about it, when someone gives a little piece of themselves, whether its a question in class, or a drawing on mothers day, try your best to take it in with love because every action, every choice, has an invisible result that you are not aware of, until it happens.
here is some of the stuff i've written:
KAPISH? Before you brand me you must understand me which is no easy feat
understand all of me and my heart is wide open
to let you in where no one else can come except for my family.
STOP TRYING You push and shove try force me into your glove
believe me that will never work I won't change see you're just one mighty irk
1.THE CONCRETE ISN'T SET Trembling like a leaf
that could drift away any time
that could fall from the tree any day
but it's not autumn yet
2. LIFE Human life

time the only rule love the only magic
3. AMAZING Climb Mt Everest Climb a Coast Redwood tree Abseil the steepest rockface Sprint faster than the speed of light Sail the choppiest ocean straits Walk the darkest part of the amazon Survive the Sahara desert Stare into the eyes of the sun
All are achievements of which to be proud but love is more love. is. life.
4. UNSPOKEN I was in waist deep your toes were just getting wet We both can't sleep Though we still haven't met
I pulled in the reigns You went all mute Its like waiting for trains Except there's no time to suit
Far apart somehow friends When will this start? Hope it never ends.
5. JUST DO Leap and the net will appear. Look take no photo and the memory will stay. Say don't think and crazy stuff will happen. Sprint, dance, laugh, jump. Cross the line and you might just get lucky.
6.STRENGTH TO THE CORE hold your back upright keep your eyes straight ahead even if you lose the fight there's always more to thread
sing your own song do your own thing someone will come along and make your heart sing
no matter how hard it gets or how far down you go live without regrets and just let the wind blow
7.THE SURGE my blood pumps it runs through me i feel life surging through me such a power life is
power equals responsibility do not use it amiss
8. UNTITLED...
time moves on people will be gone
open hearts left behind am i supposed to not mind?
cos it won't work this can't be controlled it's not like clockwork when things are left untold.
9. PASSING BY past. present. future. end.

10. WOULD YOU?
if i was a t-shirt would you wear me?
if i was a piece of cake would you eat me?
if i was a nice cool drink would you drink me?
if i was a shopping bag would you use me?
or would you just let me grow old and gather dust
if i was a photograph would u look at me?
if i was a telephone would you ring me?
if i was a microphone would you sing for me?
if i was a piano would you play me?
or would you just let me grow old and gather dust
if i was a punching bag would you punch me?
if i was a piece of ice would you crush me?
if i was a curious cat would you kill me?

if i was a memory would you cherish me?
if i was a puppy would you keep me safe?
if i was a radio would you listen?
if i was a seedling would you give me love?
or would you just let me grow old and gather dust
CRAZINESS If we could know the future?
what would it be like?
If we could read each others minds?
what would it be like?
This world would disappear
No one would speak, there'd be no need
No one would do anything
Because they'd already know the consequence
and would fear it.
The opposite of chaos would reign.
Silence.
Stillness.
Craziness!
It would not work.
And I'm glad of that.
check out my note 'stuff that i've written' its full of lots of interesting little tid bits :)
its all copyrighted of course under the corporation Britta Vandenberg.
i always feel funny writing that.
and i remember the first time someone asked me about a problem at the register at work, i freaked out,
i thought oh [bleeeep] what do i say? i've gotta say something smart, cos everyone thinks i'm smart or something.
aaaaaaaaaaaah!! ok. its ok. i'll just say this. and then now i forget what i said. haha, i love to laugh at myself. i read somewhere that
those who laugh at themselves never run out of anything to laugh at.
AAAAAANYWAY.
